SEKHMET
& BASTET:
The
Feline Powers of Egypt
by
Lesley Jackson
Paperback:
250 pages
Publisher:
Avalonia; Egyptian Gods ed. edition (March 31, 2018)
List Price:
$29.99
FROM THE
PUBLISHER:
Sekhmet
& Bastet: The Feline Powers of Egypt is a detailed study of
the history, mythology, symbolism and worship of the lion and cat
goddesses of Ancient Egypt. Lesley Jackson traces the evolution of
Sekhmet and Bastet within the context of Ancient Egyptian religious
rituals, beliefs and practices. Other feline deities, such as the
goddesses Mehit, Menhyt, Mestjet, Pakhet (Pasht), Seret, Shesmetet
and Tefnut, and gods such as Mahes, Ruty and Amun are also included
in this work, providing additional insights into the importance of
feline divinities in Ancient Egyptian religious life.
Sekhmet is
the Lady of Heaven, Mistress of the Two Lands, Mistress of the Gods
and the Great One, as well as being the Eye of Ra and the beloved of
Ptah. In the famous story of the Destruction of Mankind, Sekhmet is
tricked into drinking a vast quantity of beer to distract her from
killing all of humanity, which she was doing to avenge the Sun God
Ra. Bastet was also initially a Lion Goddess who with time evolved
into a Cat Goddess associated with the smaller, more docile, domestic
cat. Her name translates as She of the ointment jar, represented with
a hieroglyph of a sealed perfume jar. These goddesses were invoked in
numerous aspects of ancient life, including for their fiercely
protective and healing abilities, and their aid in divination,
oracles, malicious magic and love spells.
In this
thorough study, the author illustrates how feline symbolism and power
permeated Ancient Egyptian life. Evidence demonstrating their
importance is brought together from an extensive range of sources,
including artefacts, tomb scenes, statues, funerary texts and amulets
employed in guarding the body and tomb of the deceased. The names,
epithets, iconography, characteristics, festivals and temples of
Sekhmet and Bastet provide further insights, alongside information on
the cultural, historical and symbolic world within which these
powerful deities were worshipped.

ARS
ANGELORUM - THE BOOK OF ANGELS:
Being an
instruction of the office of the 360 Angels of the Zodiac.
by
Gary St. Michael Nottingham, Cypher David (Introduction)
Paperback:
170 pages
Publisher:
Avalonia (September 27, 2019)
List Price:
$45.00 Hardcover
List Price:
$24.99 paperback
FROM THE
PUBLISHER:
Ars
Angelorum by Gary St. Michael Nottingham provides a catalogue of
seals and descriptions for 360 spirits who are ruled over by a series
of archangels and angels. These are divided and assigned to the
twelve signs of the zodiac. This grimoire provides a pathway towards
self-discovery and direct contact with the angels who influence the
various aspects of one’s life.
From the
Foreword, by David Cypher:
“… I
want to share one last personal insight about these angels.
Depending where you are in your personal evolution, where you are in
time, what planets are transiting your houses, or who dominates,
certain of the angels are louder, or more easily heard than others.
Although the lesser guardian angel is the Maître ’D of your
experience, they are not always the one in the driving seat.
Depending on what is happening, many factors will determine which of
your angels are the ones in the driving seat….” – David
Cypher
From the
author, Gary St. Michael Nottingham:
“To
each of these degrees of the zodiac is attributed an angel, and the
angel who dwells at the degree from which one’s natal houses
originate will be the angel who wards that particular area of one’s
life. However, if you do not know your birth time and cannot,
therefore, work out your natal chart with any degree of certainty,
you may feel that this work has nothing to offer you. If you are in
this position, do not despair, as you can still work with the angel
who rules the degree where the Sun is domiciled on the day of your
birth. An astrological ephemeris will show the degree of the zodiac
that the Sun occupied on your day of birth, as it will all other
planets too. The angel of the solar degree can be petitioned for help
as an alternative to working with the natal angels generally. “
– Gary St.Michael Nottingham

BORDER WITCHCRAFT:
A
Rendition of the Occult History of the Welsh March
by
Gary St. Michael Nottingham
Paperback:
100 pages
Publisher:
Avalonia (September 3, 2018)
List Price:
$16.99
FROM THE
PUBLISHER:
“For most
people in the U.K., Mid Wales and its border with England will be
somewhere vague, a landscape largely unknown and barely considered.
Ask where Shropshire is, or Hereford, or indeed the old Welsh
counties of Montgomeryshire or Radnorshire and most people will not
know. Yet this area, known as the Welsh March, has in the past
played an important part in the history of these islands, and has
also been a repository of the esoteric and the occult. While many
people, both those in the occult community and the wider public, are
unfamiliar with this, this work endeavours to address this situation.
“ - Gary Nottingham
- Welsh Border Witchcraft:
- A rendition of the occult history of the Welsh March
The occult
history of the Welsh March is brought to life by the author in Welsh
Border Witchcraft through stories of the cunning men and women,
conjurors and healers, ceremonial magicians and witches who practised
their arte in this liminal landscape. This borderland between England
and Wales is an area steeped in bloodshed and mystery. This is the
ancestral lands of Dr John Dee and is one that is redolent of the
spirit of Merlin, and where the mysterious Sin-Eaters practised their
trade.
Here for
centuries, various occult practitioners have flourished with their
charms and their poppets. Examples of these local charms and curses
are discussed by the author, shining a light on their origins and
purpose, often revealing that the knowledge and inspiration for the
magic in this region came not only from the local area but also from
much further afield. Throughout the author draws on his own research,
anecdotes and extensive local knowledge.
Author Gary
St. Michael Nottingham has lived and worked in the Welsh March for
many years. His previous published books include the seven-volume set
Foundations of Practical Sorcery and its companion Ars
Alchemica:Foundations of Practical Alchemy, both published by
Avalonia.
