The Power of Magic Revealed
by Guy Bernard, Antony Lawrence
Paperback: 367 pages
Publisher: Maji Majesti Publishing(August 22, 2017)
List Price: $34.95

This book came about because of a request from a friend, on how to perform a demon binding operation (or evocation), which is also known by the Ancient Greek-derived name “Goetia.”

This friend had read Crowley’s 1904 co-edited publication The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King; but was struggling with the concepts and with its magical operations. At first, as I have a background in medieval and religious history, I believed that the task would be a simple one, that is, to simply unpack Crowley’s work with the aim of making it easier for a novice. However, Crowley’s work itself became a challenge to grasp; thus started a journey with its own discovery. Along the way I teamed-up with Antony Lawrence who brought his background in graphics and design to this book’s artwork, and also, contributed to its research and writing.

In our research, we found that demon binding has a long history and many traditions. The tradition that Crowley’s book fell within is the Western magic esoteric tradition: the Western Qabalah; kept alive mainly through magical manuscripts known as grimoires. In their original medieval form these were hand-written texts for professional magicians. The grimoires only contained the most essential information; much was left out. In short, the grimoires in their raw state were incomplete. When the printing revolution took hold at the end of the medieval period, the grimoires resurfaced as published texts. However, these published grimoires remained incomplete and because of this their magic maintained its mysterious quality. Over time they gained a reputation for being dark and dangerous; but this was more to do with attempted demon-binding with an incomplete magical technology, making the risks greater than would otherwise be if it were complete. Crowley was aware of this hazard. In his co-edited publication on the Goetia, he not only relied on original manuscripts, but also included a vital operation for the invocation of the Divine. Moreover, while Crowley added much he also was careful not to offer complete operations; as he sought to separate the serious minded from dilettantes. Given the value of Crowley’s research, his Goetia was quickly plagiarized by others. Not surprisingly, Crowley did not publish another work of this kind again.

Unfortunately, the many publications, since Crowley’s seminal 1904 Goetia, have added little to make the work complete and hence easily accessible. In writing our book we have approached Goetia with Crowley’s zeal for research, basing our work on credible sources and have sought to complete the task that Crowley started.

The Goetia is broken down into its classic operations with each operation given an introductory chapter that explains its purpose. Maintaining the work's authenticity to its magic Qabalah tradition, we have used Latin headings for each operation. This allows each operation to be easily identified and differentiated. In brief, these are the “Consecratio,” “Invocatio,” “Evocatio,” “Ligatio,” and finally the “Licentia.” The Consecratio provides the necessary litanies for sacralising yourself, your ritual space, and all material things required. Following this is the Invocatio, where you invoke the Divine; and open a dimensional portal for evoking your chosen demon; taken from the 72 Goetia demon profiles provided within the book.

The Evocatio provides you with the essential Evocatory Calls for evoking the demon. On making contact with your chosen demon, the Ligatio arms you with the binding litanies to bind the demonic force to your specific intent. Once this is effected, the ritual arch is completed with the Licentia, where you perform banishing litanies, close the dimensional portal, and finally re-cleanse your ritual space. As a bonus all this is brought together in an easy to follow guide located near the back of this book. This guide provides a continuous magic-operational piece that we have termed, "Quickstart Goetia Ritual.”

by Lee Morgan
Paperback: 280 pages
Publisher: The Witches' Almanac; Illustrated edition (August 5, 2019)
List Price: $24.95

This story about faerie began as a vision. In his newest work, Lee Morgan follows a cacophony of visions with sharp, bright edges to them that have lain claim to his heart and hands. In what is clearly a work of the heart, Lee bypasses rational intellect guiding the reader to experience the touch, scent and feel of the Faerie Faith through symbol and suggestion.

Sounds of Infinity is divided into three parts, the work of the Head, the work of the Heart and the work of the Hands. The second is a work of occult fiction that meditates upon the themes discussed in Part One in the form of a woven narrative. The final part is a practical grimoire that leads the reader through the door to physically manifests the vision they have shared in parts one and two. This is not just a book, but an experience, one which culminates not at the end of reading the volume but in the consummation known in the art of ritual.

The Moon Goddess and the Cave Oracle
by Steve Moore
Series: Strange Attractor Press
Hardcover: 256 pages
Publisher: Strange Attractor Press (August 13, 2019)
List Price: $33.95

An examination of the myths of the Moon goddess and how she appeared to the original creators of those myths in ancient Greece.

Waxing and waning and reborn with each new month, the Moon has always been the supreme symbol of cyclical change in the western world.

Metaphorical representations of the Moon's goddess also seem to undergo similar changes, each new century reinventing her in its own image. For Hesiod, she was a distant figure in the celestial pantheon, to Keats she was an intimate muse; Selene's recurring role in music, literature, and song is a powerful testament to our continued fascination with her myth.

A deeply erudite and meticulously researched survey, this book explores the perennial curiosity our closest orbital neighbor continues to instill, providing at once an unprecedented body of historical research and a critical armature for the author's lauded prose reverie Somnium.

Despite the importance of the Moon to recent developments in esoteric scholarship and mythography, Selene doesn't attempt to present a “Moon-Goddess for the twenty-first century,” but rather looks at the myths of one specific Moon goddess and how she appeared to the original creators of those myths in the literature of ancient Greece.

In doing so, Selene marks the point at which classical scholarship comes closest to a physical embrace with its ethereal subject matter.

An impeccable and flawlessly researched piece of classical scholarship.”

The Sevenfold Path of the Grail and the Restoration of the Faery Accord
by Caitlín Matthews, John Matthews
Paperback: 352 pages
Publisher: Inner Traditions (July 16, 2019)
List Price: $24.99

Reveals the long-forgotten prequel to the Grail mythos and how it has profound resonance with modern times

Includes the complete text of the Grail prequel, The Elucidation of the Grail, a 13th-century poem newly translated by Gareth Knight and Caitlín Matthews

Examines the forgotten story of the Faery Wars and the role of Well Maidens in the Grail story

Discusses the Seven Guardians of the Stories, the Grail Kings and Anti-Grail Kings, the Rich Company, the Courts of Joy, and the otherworldly Land of Women

Unveiling the long-forgotten prequel to the Grail quest stories, Caitlín and John Matthews examine The Elucidation of the Grail, a forgotten 13th-century French text, and show how it offers the key to understanding the sevenfold path of the Grail and the deeper stories beneath the Christian Grail narrative.

Beginning with a new translation of The Elucidation by foremost esotericist Gareth Knight and Caitlín Matthews, the authors provide a complete commentary on the poem, revealing a startling alternative cause of the Wasteland and the Grail quest, one which has a profound resonance with our own times. They examine the forgotten story of the Faery Wars and explain the Faery Accord, an agreement that once existed between humans and the Faery and upon which the spiritual and physical health of the land depends. The offering of the Grail and its regenerative powers by the Maidens of the Wells--Faery women--was part of this Accord. King Amangons and his men violated the Accord, through their abuse of the Well Maidens and other evil actions, causing the wasting of the land. The Knights of King Arthur seek to avenge the Well Maidens and rebirth the Grail to restore access to the lost paradisiacal “Courts of Joy” held in ancestral memory. On their quest, they encounter the Rich Company whose greed keeps the Knights occupied in long wars of attrition, yet their quest to restore the generous hospitality of the Wells--the true Grail, the Faery Grail--continues.

In addition to the Faery Accord and Knights’ quest, the authors examine the Seven Guardians of the Stories, the Rich Fisher, the Courts of Joy and paradise lost, and the otherworldly Land of Women. They show how this lost book of the Grail reveals themes familiar to the modern world and offers hope of healing the rift between the worlds of Faery and human as well as restoration of our natural belonging to the land.

Esoteric Secrets of the Art of Memory
by Charles B. Jameux
Paperback: 128 pages
Publisher: Inner Traditions (July 9, 2019)
List Price: $14.99

Reveals how the art of memory is the origin of the Masonic method

Explains the classical techniques of the art of memory, how they were reworked by hermetic thinkers during the Renaissance, and how they contributed to the transformation of operative Freemasonry into speculative Freemasonry

Traces the creation of speculative Freemasonry to 1637, one hundred years earlier than previously thought

Explores how the “memory palaces” created with the art of memory enabled access to universal knowledge as well as represented the Masonic temple in its imaginary state

In Antiquity, the art of memory was a mnemonic device that allowed an orator, such as Cicero, to recall all the points he wished to make by associating each of them with an image or architectural element in the site he was speaking. When this art was rediscovered in the Renaissance, hermetic thinkers like Giordano Bruno reworked it into a method that allowed them to acquire knowledge with the creation of “memory palaces.” The elements of these memory palaces were not intended to trigger the memory but would actually transform into talismanic objects with knowledge entirely new to the seeker.

In this book, Charles B. Jameux shows that this hermetic reworking of the classical art of memory was no mystery to operative Masons, who grafted it onto their own rituals, catalyzing the transformation of operative Masonry into speculative Masonry. He shows how the hieroglyphic writing used during the Renaissance in the art of memory provided the groundwork for one of the most esoteric elements of masonic practice: the grasp of the realm of image by the letter, where symbols were “buried” within words. Using archival evidence from 17th-century Scotland and earlier, combined with the research of modern scholars such as Frances Yates and David Stevenson, Jameux argues that the creation of speculative Freemasonry can be traced back 100 years earlier than conventional history records--to 1637, when the first recorded use of the Mason’s Word appeared and with it, the first known appearance of the symbolic Temple of Solomon. He follows Giordano Bruno’s visit to the British Isles in the late 16th century and the subsequent activities of the men he met there, showing that Masonic symbolism owes much of its current form to early memory palaces, which represented the Masonic lodge and temple in their fully imaginary states.

Revealing the pivotal role of the memory palace and hermetic traditions in early Masonic symbolism, Jameux sheds new light on the Masonic questions asked of each initiate and the spiritual importance of the Temple of Jerusalem to Freemasonry.
