WAKING
THE WITCH:
Reflections
on Women, Magic, and Power
by
Pam Grossman
Hardcover:
304 pages
Publisher:
Gallery Books (June 4, 2019)
List Price:
$16.99
FROM THE
PUBLISHER:
A
whip-smart and illuminating exploration of the world’s fascination
with witches from podcast host and practicing witch Pam Grossman (The
Witch Wave), who delves deeply into why witches have intrigued us for
centuries and why they’re more relevant now than ever.
When you
think of a witch, what do you picture? Pointy black hat, maybe a
broomstick. But witches in various guises have been with us for
millennia. In Waking the Witch, Pam Grossman explores the cultural
and historical impact of the world’s most magical icon. From the
idea of the femme fatale in league with the devil in early modern
Europe and Salem, to the bewitching pop culture archetypes in Buffy
the Vampire Slayer, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Harry Potter; from
the spooky ladies in fairy tales and horror films to the rise of
feminist covens and contemporary witchcraft, witches reflect the
power and potential of women.
In this
fascinating read that is part cultural analysis, part memoir, Pam
opens up about her own journey on the path to witchcraft, and how her
personal embrace of the witch helped her find strength,
self-empowerment, and a deeper purpose.
A
comprehensive meditation on one of the most mysterious and
captivating figures of all time, Waking the Witch celebrates witches
past, present, and future, and reveals the critical role they have
played—and will continue to play—in shaping the world as we know
it.

on overcoming the pitfalls of status-quo society while perfecting and

familial, and creative pursuits while guiding young seekers toward a
radical reassessment of the values and activities of contemporary

Paths on the Quest for the Grail
Explore the
transformative power of the Grail and discover extraordinary
revelations from nearly forgotten Grail texts. Temple of the Grail
offers the first English translations of the thirteenth-century Sone
de Nansay and the Later Titurel by Albrecht, together with insights
from the Letter of Prester John. These texts, along with brilliant
commentary by foremost Grail scholars John Matthews and Gareth
Knight, provide tantalizing clues into the modern understanding of
the Grail quest, shedding important new light on the mysteries of the
Grail temple itself, its relationship to the sacred understanding of
architecture and symbolism, and its rediscovery in the heart of the
Middle East. In addition, Temple of the Grail explores the lineage of
the mystical Swan Knights, said to be guardians of the Grail
descended from Sone himself.
Filled with
fascinating perspectives on one of the greatest mysteries of all
time, this book is a must-have for Grail aficionados. The
interpretations of the Grail temple and the effects of standing
before the Grail live at the heart of the mystery. The profound ideas
explored in Temple of the Grail open new pathways of engagement with
this essential part of our continued spiritual evolution.

~A
visual presentation of Tibetan yoga, the hidden treasure at the heart
of the Tibetan Tantric Buddhist tradition
• Explains
the core principles and practices of Tibetan yoga with illustrated
instructions
• Explores
esoteric practices less familiar in the West, including sexual yoga,
lucid dream yoga, and yoga enhanced by psychoactive substances
• Draws
on scientific research and contemplative traditions to explain
Tibetan yoga from a historical, anthropological, and biological
perspective
• Includes
full-color reproductions of previously unpublished works of Himalayan
art
Tibetan
yoga is the hidden treasure at the heart of the Tibetan Tantric
Buddhist tradition: a spiritual and physical practice that seeks an
expanded experience of the human body and its energetic and cognitive
potential. In this pioneering and highly illustrated overview, Ian A.
Baker introduces the core principles and practices of Tibetan yoga
alongside historical illustrations of the movements and beautiful,
full-color works of Himalayan art, never before published.
Drawing on
Tibetan cultural history and scientific research, the author explores
Tibetan yogic practices from historical, anthropological, and
biological perspectives, providing a rich background to enable the
reader to understand this ancient tradition with both the head and
the heart. He provides complete, illustrated instructions for
meditations, visualizations, and sequences of practices for the
breath and body, as well as esoteric practices including sexual yoga,
lucid dream yoga, and yoga enhanced by psychoactive plants. He
explains how, while Tibetan yoga absorbed aspects of Indian hatha
yoga and Taoist energy cultivation, this ancient practice largely
begins where physically-oriented yoga and chi-gong end, by directing
prana, or vital energy, toward the awakening of latent human
abilities and cognitive states. He shows how Tibetan yoga techniques
facilitate transcendence of the self and suffering and ultimately
lead to Buddhist enlightenment through transformative processes of
body, breath, and consciousness.
Richly
illustrated with contemporary ethnographic photography of Tibetan
yoga practitioners and rare works of Himalayan art, including Tibetan
thangka paintings, murals from the Dalai Lama’s once-secret
meditation chamber in Lhasa, and images of yogic practice from
historical practice manuals and medical treatises, this
groundbreaking book reveals Tibetan yoga’s ultimate expression of
the interconnectedness of all existence.
