IN PRAISE OF OUR MOTHERS
By John Mason
New, First Edition, 2016, Yoruba Theological Archministry
Paperback.
List Price: $15.95

FROM THE PUBLISHER:
What did the Orisa do originally to merit our respect and worship?

Orisa are women and men who were either buried by earth or water, and then selected, after careful and serious reflection, to be honored for their deeds and characters that redefined the possible and ushered in New ages. What great inventions, deeds, or teachings did they initiate to cause us to evoke their spirits through tales, songs and dances, in our times of need and distress? Hundreds and thousands of years later, through wars, societal upheavals, savage transplantings, and chattel slavery , their spirits and sagas continue to inspire devotion, emulation, and action; even when those contributions are no longer clearly understood. This vagueness is definitely in evidence when the inventions, deeds, and teachings of the women who were raised, after serious consideration, to the status of orisa, are discussed. Often, men have usurped the credit for and control of those inventions. Women turned oppression into a window of opportunity. Women with equal rights and availability to education and economic parity contribute directly to the economic welfare and social stability of their family, community, city, region, and national.

This book will highlight and clearly and fully examine the innovations of nine of those women: Odu, Nana, Ayja, (Ayan) , Yemowo, Orisa Oki, Yemoja, Oba, Oya, and Osun.

SACRED STONES OF IRELAND
By Christine Zucchelli
Paperback: 240 pages
Publisher: Collins Pr; 2 edition (September 28, 2016)
List Price: $24.00

FROM THE PUBLISHER:
Sacred stones and stone monuments feature the world over and Ireland is no exception. Our landscape is dotted with them, from the Blarney Stone in Cork and Meadhbh’s Grave in Sligo to St Patrick’s Chair in Tyrone and the Royal Pillars of Tara in Meath. Since prehistoric times people have acknowledged their special nature, an unbroken link from ancient sun-oriented monuments to the present. Christine Zucchelli explores their secrets, myths, legends and folktales, many persisting to this day. Some are considered the abodes of deities or otherworld ladies, some are memorials to mythical heroes and historical kings, others reminders of the miracles of early saints. This is a wonderful reminder of our spiritual past as some of these stones and monuments enter their fifth millennium.

SACRED TREES OF IRELAND
By Christine Zucchelli
Paperback: 296 pages
Publisher: Collins Pr; 2 edition (September 28, 2016)
List Price: $24.00

FROM THE PUBLISHER:
Trees mirror in many ways the life cycle of human beings: they are born from seed, they breathe and drink, they grow to maturity, reproduce and eventually die from age or disease. Their branches, roots and the veins of their leaves resemble human blood vessels, and certain species even ooze a reddish, blood-like sap when damaged. From ancient times, people appreciated the spiritual value of trees, singling out individual trees for special veneration. In Ireland the roots of tree worship reach deep into pagan Celtic religion and spirituality. Christine Zucchelli looks at all the trees, from Fairy Thorns to Rag Trees, from Mass Bushes to Monument Trees. This fascinating exploration of their stories and legends reveals their spiritual, social and historical functions from pagan times to the present.

THE PLACE OF MAGIC IN THE INTELLECTUAL HISTORY OF EUROPE
By Lynn Thorndike
Paperback: 112 pages
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (April 8, 2016)
List Price: $8.95

FROM THE PUBLISHER:
Lynn Thorndike, of Columbia University, in his critical essay on "The Place of Magic in the Intellectual History of Europe" (1905), finds in Plato suggestions “that he believed in astrology — in the potent influence of the stars over all changes in earthly matter.” Aristotle's doctrine, says Thorndike, was similar, and he sees in it some preparation for mediaeval astrology and demonology, as also in the philosopher's attribution of souls to plants and animals “"a theory which would readily lend itself to an assumption of magic properties in herbs and beasts.” From such considerations the inference is drawn “that Greek science at its best was not untainted with magic.”
In Rome, Thorndike tells us, even Cicero's condemnation of astrology "is somewhat neutralized by the fact that in his Dream of Scipio he apparently attributes to planets influence over man." According to Thorndike, “men in the Roman Empire condemned "magic, but understood the word in a restricted and bad sense;" Pliny, who pretended to be free from all belief in it, is made to appear actually addicted to it, at least in the sense that he accepted much of its traditions, beliefs, and practices, as also did Seneca and later men of eminence in the imperial world, as well as Cato and others of an earlier day.
