The Phillupic Hymns by P. Sufenas Virius Lupus Book Launch and Ritual The Phillupic Hymns is a collection of poetry, prose, and translations devoted to the gods and goddesses of Egypt, Greece, Rome, and ancient Celtic Gaul and Britain. Its themes are diverse, from theology to narrative to ritual rubric; sex to syncretism to star-lore; prayers to praise-hymns to holy-days; divinity to death to...dogs! As this is a book of devotional poetry, a simple "reading" of it will not do for a book launch...True gratitude to the Muses and the other gods who inspired the works requires literal as well as metaphorical libations to be poured! Thus, please be prepared for an unconventional ritual/performance of the work, in which the barrier between audience and performer blurs, in which ancient names and forgotten epithets will be spoken aloud for the first time in ages, and in which inspiration's continued influence will be put to the test in the course of events! This is not your mother's poetry book launch...?!? P. Sufenas Virius Lupus is the Doctor, mystagogue, and functioning priest of the Ekklesía Antínoou--a queer, Graeco-Roman-Egyptian syncretist reconstructionist polytheist group dedicated to the god Antinous, the deified lover of the Roman Emperor Hadrian--as well as a contributing member of Neos Alexandria. When not involved in the things mentioned above, Phillupus is occupied with the overwhelming concerns of the everyday world, which are nowhere near as interesting or as important...

Deeply rooted in ancient paganism and mystery traditions, Orphism taught a doctrine of peace-seeking, reincarnation, universal brotherhood, and ecstatic liberation. The followers, like their leader, worshiped their gods with poetry and song. Eighty-eight of these ancient hymns have survived to the present day, and are called The Orphic Hymns. They've been translated into English many times, most familiarly by the Neo-Classicist Thomas Taylor in 1792. Sara Mastros’s stunning new translations render them in modern English in rhymed couplets suitable for both oration and singing. Orphic Hymns Grimoire is a guide ...
